George Montsioa

Born at Mafeking in 1885, grandson of the great and distinguished Natural Ruler of the Barolong Tribe. He received his early education at his home and later he went to England for higher education. He studied law and was called to the Side Bar, and returned to South Africa a Barrister-at-law of the Lincoln Inn. He was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of South Africa. He is third African Barrister in South Africa. Mr. Montsioa commenced his practice at Pietersburg, Transvaal, and soon became a successful lawyer. He was much respected by the chiefs of the Transvaal, and by the community of the Pietersburg, both white and black. In 1912 he was appointed recording secretary of the African National Congress under the presidency of the Rev. J.L. Dube. He married Miss Dorothy, granddaughter of the late Marcus Gabashane, founder of the A.M.E. Church in the Orange Free State.
