Bonani Africa 2010 Festival of Photography

Exhibition will be opens 18 August and closes on 30 September

The exhibition is held at the Cape Town Castle of Good Hope

South African History Online’s Bonani Africa 2010 Festival of Photography has brought together 56 of South Africa’s leading and young photographers who not only provide the world with a critical look at the reality of Mzanzi (South Africa) but a fascinating look at the state of contemporary South African documentary photography.

On the 18th of August, an exhibition will be held at the Cape Town Castle of Good Hope, featuring the work of 56 photographers who have submitted more than 60 photographic essays that cover an array of subjects: from a powerful, yet sensitive, essay on the effects of breast cancer to the crass public display of opulence that has become the hallmark of success amongst the country’s new elite.

On 6th June 2010, a panel of judges, comprising the renowned photographer, David Goldblatt; Sunday Independent journalist and arts columnist, Mary Corrigall; artist and lecturer Thembinkosi Goniwe; Iziko National Gallery Curator, Riason Naidoo and Bonani Africa 2010 Festival Director, Omar Badsha, met in Johannesburg and chose eight of the most compelling essays. The names of the photographers will be announced on the 18th of August at the opening of the exhibition at The Castle, in Cape Town.

Remember to register for the conference from August 18 - 21, 2010. The conference programme is now available - for more information click here
