Documentation related to Deputy Chief Msizwana Mbata’s banishment alleges that 10 years of community conflict in the districts of Estcourt and Weenen, Natal (now KwaZulu-Natal), culminated in a fight in which 23 people were killed.

A commission of enquiry blamed Deputy Chief Msizwana Mbata of the Mtembu community for not attempting to prevent the conflict. He was banished to Location No.6, Alfred District, Natal on 24 November 1949.

This order was withdrawnon 11 June 1960.
