Born in 1920 Dichaba was a herd boy until he was 15. He left school to become a labourer in the railway workshops. He led the first Free State volunteers in the Defiance Campaign and was a member of the African National Congress (ANC) between 1954-1956 and vice-provincial secretary ANC (Orange Free State [OFS]), 1954-1956.
