Tikkie Sibisi was born in Greater Nigel in 1975 and grew up in Duduza Township with a single parent, his father, and three sisters. (At the age of four his mother died during the ritual of Sangoma training) His father was a welder at Union Carriage and did freelance photography on weekends. He attended Sizwesethu primary school and later Esibonelwe Sihle secondary school where he matriculated in 1996.

In 1996 he became a member of Kodak Professional Freelance Photographer Club, attending several workshops on how to use the 35mm camera. From 1997-1998 he joined his father as a freelance photographer in Duduza Township working to cover events for the Greater Nigel municipality as well as in the Greater Springs area. In 1999 he attended an electrical course at the Tlamoha Technical College.

In 2001 he was accepted as a photography student at the Vaal Triangle Technikon and he is currently busy with his second year of study at the Vaal Triangle Technikon.
