This imposing Victorian dwelling was erected in 1888 by EF Bourke, who later became the first mayor of Pretoria. It is one of the last remaining examples of the kind of elegant mansions which characterised this part of the city during the latter part of the 19th century. It was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 16 July 1982.
