The earliest structure known to have been erected on this property was a 'Hartbeeshuisie', belonging to farmer: 'Bronkhorst'.

In 1862 the property was purchased by President Kruger and remained in his family until; 1903. During this time an impressive main homestead, built in a Georgian style, as well as two adjacent Buildings and a Barn, had been erected. This is not the only Farm known to have been owned by Kruger. It was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 2 April 1971.
