The Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein was originally built for the Rugby World Cup of 1995. Then, it was revamped to host a number of matches for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. Its current tenants include the Central Cheetahs, the Free State Cheetahs and the Bloemfontein Celtic Football Club.
Considered to be one of the most sophisticated stadiums in South Africa, the Free State Stadium has a seating capacity of 46 000. There are eight entrance gates. The hospitality facilities of the stadium comprise 100 suites, an entertainment deck, and 15 fixed gazebos. The stadium’s sound system was upgraded in 2009, in preparation for the World Cup. The two electronic scoreboards and the two video boards add to the excitement and the overall experience of watching world-class sport within these comfortable surrounds.
