South End Museum
The South End Museum Trust was started in 1999 when a group of people from the disadvantaged communities of Port Elizabeth and who had been affected by the forced removals of the Group Areas Act, saw the need to commemorate the past history of the suburb of South End. The elections of 1994 in South Africa gave many formerly disadvantaged people opportunities they never had before. One of these was the opportunity of opening and administering a museum that would correctly reflect their history. This museum was officially launched on Human Rights Day, 21 March 2001 and its aim is to depict the tragedy and sorrow that resulted from forced removals, the Group Areas Act and Apartheid legislation that oppressed so many people for so long.- more info
