10 August 1996
The South Africa Rugby team, the Springboks, were beaten 18-29 by the New Zealand team (All Blacks) in a Tri-Nation first test match staged at Newlands stadium, Cape Town. The Springboks were leading by 18-6 at halftime until the All Blacks managed to come from behind to register a victory. This was Francois Pienaar's final match as captain of the Springboks. After leaving the field injured, the team's coach Andre Markgraaff accused him of having faked an injury and subsequently dropped him from the team.
