Boitumelo “Tumi” Molekane was born in Tanzania on 16 August 1981.[1] At the time of his birth his parents were living in exile due to the Apartheid regime. However in 1992, he was repatriated as a South African.[2] Tumi was the lead vocalist of musical ensemble Tumi and the Volume, before the group disbanded in 2012.[3] Tumi is described as a socially conscious poet, for his lyrics are often viewed as controversial.[4] He released a track titled “POWA” in 2012, which was about the condemnation of women abuse.[5] Tumi released the album “Stogie T” in 2016. The two hit singles from the album were “By Any Means” featuring rappers Emtee and Yanga; and the other “Diamond Walk” featuring female rapper Nadia Nakai. He was a judge on the first and second season of the television show The Hustle.[6] Tumi also performed at the 2016 South African Music Awards.[7] End Notes [1] Tumi Molekane, http://bimba.co.za/tumi-molekane (9 June 2017). ↵ [2] Tumi Molekane, http://bimba.co.za/tumi-molekane (9 June 2017). ↵ [3] Tumi Molekane: More than just a rapper, https://hiphopafrican.com/2016/02/06/tumi-molekane-more-than-just-a-rapper/ (6 February 2016). ↵ [4] Tumi Molekane: More than just a rapper, https://hiphopafrican.com/2016/02/06/tumi-molekane-more-than-just-a-rapper/ (6 February 2016). ↵ [5] Short biography of Tumi (Tumi & the Volume), https://hiphopafrican.com/2014/11/08/short-biography-of-tumi-tumi-the-volume/ (8 November 2014). ↵ [6] Tumi Molekane, https://www.tvsa.co.za/actors/viewactor.aspx?actorid=17248 (9 June 2017). ↵ [7] Tumi Molekane, https://www.tvsa.co.za/actors/viewactor.aspx?actorid=17248 (9 June 2017). ↵
