Friday, 13 July 1934

The Nigerian, novelist, playwright and poet, Wole Soyinka, was born at Abeokuta, near Ibadan in western Nigeria. Soyinka became the first African to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature from the Nobel Prize Committee in 1986.
