South African artist, Maggie Laubser, is born

On 14 April 1886, South African artist Maggie Laubser was born on Bloublommetjieskloof farm in the district of Malmesbury, Cape Colony. Laubser went on to become on of South Africa's most renowned South African painters. During her training as an artist, Laubser worked with German Expressionists in Berlin, and soon after returning to South Africa she developed a distinctive pastoral style. Laubser was a member of the South African Society of Artists (SASA) and received many art awards during her career.
