Pieter ‘Pietie’ Norval was born on 7 April 1970 in Belleville.[i] He began playing tennis at the age of 7 years old, and turned professional at 18.[ii] Norval is a right-handed tennis player.[iii] On 29 January 1989, Norval competed at the Australian Open in Round 1 against Australia’s Jason Robert Stoltenberg.[iv] He competed at Wimbledon, on 9 July 1989, against Australian Carl Limberger in Round 1.[v] Pietie Norval and his tennis partner, Pietie Norval won the silver medal in the men’s tennis doubles at the Barcelona Olympic Games of 1992.[vi] In 1995, he achieved his career high in doubles by placing 16th on world rankings with Wayne Ferreira.[vii]
