Ballot counting

The ANC emerges with 62% majority, with the ruling National Party second, gaing 20% of the vote nationally. The NP wins a majority in the Western Cape where it is strongly supported by coloured (mixed race) voters. The Inkatha Freedom Party recieves 10% ofthe vote, mainly in its KwaZulu-Natal heratland
