Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon was born on 4 August 1900. Queen Elizabeth Angela was the ninth child and daughter of Claude George Bowes-Lyon, father and Cecilia Cavendish-Bentinck. She was educated at home, and at the age of 10 she was fluent in French. At the age of 13, she attended private school in London and passed with merit.When the World War I started, she was 14 years old and her family home, Glamis Castle, was used as the hospital for War wounded people. Although she was too young to serve as a nurse, she assisted her parents with welfare work during the World War I. She supported the British public during the World War II. On 26 April 1923, Queen Elizabeth married Albert, the second son of George V’s. They had two children, Elizabeth and Margret. She never expected to be a Queen, but she dedicated her life and of her family in serving the nation and supporting her husband duties as a sovereign. After her daughter’s coronation as Queen Elizabeth II, She named herself as “Queen Mother” to avoid confusion between her and the new Queen.
During the World War II, the officials of North America suggested the family to leave North America to Canada, but Queen Elizabeth refused to leave. They experienced a personal loss when Elizabeth’s nephew and King’s brother who were killed during the World War II. On 30 March 2002, Queen Elizabeth died in her sleep at the age of 101 at her house, the Royal Lodge at Windsor Great Park. She is now survived by her daughter Queen Elizabeth II.
