When Raza Ali married a Hindu woman in 1936, Pather, with other Hindu members and officials, resigned from the NIC (see above, pp. 141 - 147). For two years, he was in the political wilderness and returned to the NIC in 1938. Thereafter, he was instrumental in the formation of the NIA in 1939 and the resuscitation of the NIC in 1945.
