This imposing dwelling was completed in 1911 for TF Allen, who subsequently became Mayor of Johannesburg from 1917 to 1919. It is a testament to the high expectations that initially surrounded the establishment of this suburb. In addition to a lavishly decorated interior, the house also contains a set of four stained glass windows of exceptional merit portraying commerce, justice, industry and agriculture. It was declared a National Monument under old NMC legislation on 4 December 1981..
