Date: 4 May, 1978
Azanian People's Organisation's two principal leaders, Ishmael Mkhabela and Lybon Mabasa are arrested in Soweto. They were detained under the General Law Amendment Act of 1963. Ishmael Mkhabela was chairman of AZAPO in Soweto. He was also a member of the Soweto Action Committee organised to deal with increasing detentions of liberation leaders. Currently, L Mabasa is leader of the Socialist Party of Azania (SOPA), a breakaway faction from AZAPO.
