23 May 1983
Following an African National Congress's 20 May 1983 car bombing of headquarters of the South African Defence Force in Pretoria, ANC bases in a suburb of Maputo, Mozambique's capital city, were bombed in retaliation on 23 May 1983. This action boosted the apartheid government's destabilisation of neighbouring African countries and repression campaign against liberation organisations.
