Shakaland, situated just 160 km north of the city of Durban is a living monument, to Zulu culture. It is here that people from all over the world come to experience the lifestyle, social system and rich culture of the Zulu nation. A visit to South Africa is not complete without a visit to this cultural attraction, one of the most famous in South Africa.

In keeping with the rural surrounds, Shakaland’ accommodation features authentic African decor, complete with wooden interiors, thatched roofs and an earthy, warm ambience. The 'Shisa Nyama'- restaurant with its authentic setting and traditional Zulu style offers guests an opportunity to enjoy ethnic dishes. Don’t miss out on the Nandi Experience (a 3-hour daytime adventure named in honour of Shaka’s mother, Nandi) or the cultural tour which includes: the Beer Drinking Ceremony, Fighting Formations, the Sangoma, spear throwing and more.

Daily starting times: 11:00 to 14:00 or from 12:00 to 15:00 The Shaka Programme for overnight guests, commencing with Part I of the culture tour at 16:00 and Zulu dancing for an hour after dinner. The Culture Tour Part II of the culture tour runs from 09:00 to 10:00 the next morning. The culture tour includes: Beer Drinking Ceremony, Social Systems, Fighting Formations, The Greeting of the Home, The Sangoma, The Nyanga, Beadwork and Pottery Beer Making, Spear Throwing etc.

Team Building School day programme daily at 09:00, school children are treated to the mysticism of Africa perfectly designed to showcase the diversity of the Zulu culture. Siyafunda Educational Program is when school and university groups visiting Shakaland on cultural excursions can be accommodated in traditional dormitory huts in the school centre accommodation.
